BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Elise Wyatt, DePaul, Sr., F
Wyatt became DePaul’s all-time leader in career goals by way of her second career hat trick on Thursday, providing all three of the Blue Demons’ goals in the 3-2 win over Butler. The senior followed that showing with a two-assist performance in DePaul’s 3-0 win at Villanova on Sunday, boosting her weekly point total to eight. She was credited with one of the assists on Abby Reed’s game winner over the Wildcats before supplying the helper on Madeline Frick’s insurance goal. Wyatt’s 1.73 points per game rank second in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Erin Holland, Marquette, Jr., D
Holland helped MU’s backline hold Xavier and Providence without a goal in just over 181 minutes of action as the Golden Eagles picked up their second and third BIG EAST victories of the year. The junior started both contests and played every minute as she controlled the center of the pitch for the Golden Eagles. Holland anchored a defense which allowed just two shots on goal in the win over the Musketeers, while MU held an overall advantage in shots last week, 36-18.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Amanda Engel, Marquette, Sr., GK
Engel scored a pair of shutouts last week, the first for Marquette since Aug. 30, earning back-to-back blank sheets against Xavier and Providence. The senior played over 181 minutes in the net, making two stops in the overtime win over the Musketeers before stopping four shots by the Friars. The shutouts were the 25
th and 26
th of Engel’s career.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Franny Cerny, DePaul, Fr., F
Cerny notched an assist in each game last week in wins over Butler and Villanova. The freshman provided the dish on Sunday’s game winner at Nova, feeding Abby Reed. Through her first five BIG EAST matches, Cerny has nine points to rank third in the league. This is Cerny’s third consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Carly Alfano, Xavier, So., D
Alfano anchored a defense which surrendered just one goal last week and held both opponents scoreless in regulation. The Musketeers scored a 1-0 shutout win over Seton Hall on Sunday following a narrow overtime setback, 1-0, at Marquette on Thursday.
Liz Bartels, Marquette, Jr., M/F
Bartels helped Marquette to a 2-0 week with her game-winning goal in the 55
th minute against Providence. She totaled six shots on the week in wins over the Friars and Xavier.
Rachel Corboz, Georgetown, So., M
Corboz helped orchestrate the Hoyas’ crucial win over St. John’s on Thursday, proving a pair of assists in GU’s 3-1 win. The sophomore provided the dish in the game’s first goal, just 40 seconds in, before feeding Taylor Pak in the 49
th minute for what was the game winner.
Rachel Daly, St. John’s, Sr., F
Daly tied Wyatt for the league lead with eight points last week, with all of Daly’s coming off of goals. The senior provide the Red Storm’s lone goal off a penalty kick in a setback at Georgetown on Thursday before exploding for a hat trick in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Creighton. Her 1.07 goals per game average this season lists third nationally.
Kristyn Shea, Providence, Jr., GK
Shea went 1-1 last week despite allowing just one goal in over 192 minutes in the cage. The junior made five stops in the narrow setback at Marquette on Sunday, and denied the lone shot faced in the Friars’ 1-0 double-overtime win against Villanova on Thursday.
