Veitner, Miller, Mitchell Claim Weekly Field Hockey Honors
New York – Connecticut’s Charlotte Veitner tied the conference single-game assist record leading to her being named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the seventh occasion in 2015. Temple goalkeeper Haley Mitchell earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Villanova’s Erika Miller was tabbed Freshman of the Week.

Charlotte Veitner, Connecticut, So., F
Veitner tallied a goal and four dishes, tying a record that has stood since 1993, in UConn’s dominating 8-0 win over Providence. Two days later, the sophomore found the back of the net again while adding two more helpers in the Huskies’ 4-1 victory against No. 20 Princeton. Through four conference games, Veitner leads the BIG EAST in points, 16, and assists, eight.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Haley Mitchell, Temple, Sr., GK
In a clash broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network last Tuesday, Mitchell put forth a spectacular performance in goal, stopping 10 Old Dominion to shots give Temple its first league win in an upset over the No. 12 Monarchs, 1-0. The senior kept the momentum going later in the week, making two saves in the 3-1 triumph of Georgetown and two more against Lafayette, a 4-1 Temple win.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Erika Miller, Villanova, Fr., GK
Miller picked up the biggest win of her young career when Villanova topped No. 12 Old Dominion 2-1 on Friday. The freshman goalkeeper posted six saves in the contest - with the biggest coming with no time left on the clock on an ODU penalty corner to preserve the Wildcats victory.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Francesca Bello, Villanova, So., M
Bello scored both of the Wildcats’ goals in the upset of Old Dominion, putting Villanova on the scoreboard in the 48
th minute before adding her second notch ten minutes later.
Carolyn Clark, Villanova, Sr., M
Clark’s senior leadership on the defensive end helped limit ODU to one goal, despite having 15 chances off penalty corners.
Alyssa Delp, Temple, Sr., F/M
Delp put up three scores in the Owls’ 3-0 week, including a multi-goal outing against Lafayette.
Roisin Upton, Connecticut, Sr., M
Upton anchored the Huskies’ defense that allowed just a single goal across two games last weekend.
