St. John's all-time leading scorer Rachel Daly does it again
NEW YORK – It came down to the final 69 seconds of the last regular-season game of the season, but St. John’s clinched the BIG EAST women’s soccer regular-season title for the first time in league history. Rachel Daly scored her 50th career goal in the 89th minute at Providence to solidify the Red Storm as the No. 1 seed in next week’s BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship.
St. John’s finished BIG EAST play with a 7-1-1 mark for 22 points. Georgetown and DePaul, both of which earned wins this afternoon, tied for second place with matching 6-1-2 conference marks and tied during their regular-season meeting just five days ago. The Hoyas’ win over St. John’s earlier in the season proved to be the tiebreaker between themselves and DePaul, clinching the No. 2 seed and first-round bye. The Blue Demons finish as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Providence in the BIG EAST Championship First Round. The Friars finished conference play with a 5-4 mark which included a defeat of DePaul just eight days ago.
Butler clinched the No. 4 seed with the help of its win over Xavier in this evening’s finale, totaling a 6-3-0 mark in BIG EAST action to edge No. 5 seed Marquette (5-3-1) by two points. The two will square off in the first round with a trip to the semifinals on the line. The Golden Eagles won the regular-season meeting this past Sunday at the Butler Bowl, 1-0.

DePaul and Providence will kick off at 2 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, while Butler and Marquette will battle starting at 7 p.m. in Indianapolis. The BIG EAST Digital Network will stream both matches.
