Xavier, Georgetown and DePaul Players Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK  –  Last week was an important one for BIG EAST men’s soccer as the home sites have been set for the upcoming BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship. Georgetown went 2-0 and secured at least a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season title with wins over Seton Hall and Villanova. Along with Georgetown, Creighton, Butler and Xavier have all clinched playoff berths and home field advantage. Xavier handed No. 1 Creighton its first loss of the season on Wednesday and DePaul, Providence, Villanova and St. John’s remain alive for the final two playoff spots.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brandon Allen, Georgetown, Sr., F, Old Bridge, N.J.  Allen led the BIG EAST in goals and tied for first in points with three goals and six points in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, which have secured at least a share of the BIG EAST Championship. All three of Allen’s goals came at key moments for Georgetown as the Hoyas had to fight back for both wins. Against Seton Hall on Thursday, Allen connected on the penalty kick in the 83rd minute to send the game to overtime. Allen then scored the golden goal in the 96th minute for the win. At Villanova on Saturday, Allen’s heroics helped Georgetown maintain an undefeated slate in league play as he netted the game-winner in the 74th minute.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Moore, Xavier, RS-Jr., D, Louisville, Ky. – In a 2-0 week for the Musketeers, Moore started and played all 180 minutes. Moore helped lead a defense that held No. 1 Creighton to three shots below its season average in a 2-1 win in Omaha. Moore recorded his first career assist against Seton Hall while also contributing to the shutout, holding the Pirates to just one shot on goal, seven shots total. Moore helped a Xavier defense give up just one goal in two games.
 
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Dallas Jaye, Xavier, Grad Student, GK, San Ramon, Calif. – Jaye went 2-0 in goal for Xavier with nine saves and a league-leading .900 save percentage.  Jaye saved eight shots in the full 90 at No. 1 Creighton, helping Xavier pick up the highest-ranked win in program history. He allowed one goal in the 2-1 win. Jaye split time on senior night against Seton hall, but made one save and recorded a shared shutout of Seton Hall in 75 minutes of action. Xavier improved to 9-1-1 with Jaye in goal this season.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Jake Scheper, DePaul, Fr., F, Cincinnati, Ohio  –  Scheper scored the eventual game-winner in the eighth minute of the game at Butler to help the Blue Demons to a 1-0 win and earn three points that may factor into BIG EAST standings and seeding at the end of the week. Scheper sparked the Blue Demons to the upset win and improved DePaul to 3-1-1 over its last five games.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll
David Goldsmith, Butler, Jr., F, Bristol, England – Scored both goals in Butler’s 2-0 win on the road against Marquette.
 
Fabian Herbers, Creighton, Jr., M/F, Ahaus, Germany – Had five points for the week on one goal and three assists. Herbers had a goal and two assists in the 3-1 win over Providence, scoring in the 10th minute and assisting on both the second goal and security goal.
 
Julian Gressel, Providence, Jr., M, Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany – In a 1-1 week for the Friar, Gressel finished with two goals and two assists for a league-tying six points. Gressel registered a goal and two assists in a 4-3 win at Marquette. He also scored the lone goal in a loss to Creighton.
 
Mike Prosuk, St. John’s, Fr., F, Westfield, N.J. – Registered his first-career multi-goal game, tallying a pair of goals to lead St. John’s to a 2-0 victory against DePaul, keeping the Red Storm in the playoff hunt. The multi-goal effort was the first by a Red Storm player since Oct. 18, 2014.
 
Matt Vasquenza, Xavier, So., F, East Hampton, Conn.  – Delivered the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to defeat No. 1 Creighton his second game-winner of the season and second in a row.
