BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Daly, St. John’s, Sr., F
Daly needed just one game to total five points, having a hand in all three goals St. John’s scored in a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday night. Daly assisted on the game’s first goal just five minutes in before providing the game winner in the 13th minute. The senior then tacked on the insurance score in the 78th to lead the Red Storm to an 8-1 record in non-conference play.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Ylenia Sachau, Creighton, Jr., D
Sachau anchored a back line which allowed only five shots on goal last week and scored a pair of shutouts. Colorado State was limited to just one shot on goal as the Bluejays outshot their opponents 44-13 overall, including a 21-5 advantage on net. Creighton carried a 0-0 score into halftime on Sunday versus Colorado State before limiting the Rams to just two shots en route to a 2-0 victory.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Illissa Blackshear, Seton Hall, Jr., GK
Blackshear did not allow a goal in over 167 minutes in net last week, earning a 1-0 record with six total saves. The junior came on in relief in a 1-0 setback against Cornell, but stopped all three shots faced after inheriting the 1-0 deficit. She posted the clean sheet against Albany as the Pirates scored their first win of the season, 1-0, in Blackshear’s first start of 2015.
BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
Lucy Whipp, St. John’s, Fr., F
Whipp totaled three points in a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, recording the game’s first goal in the sixth minute by beating a charging FDU keeper, before assisting on Rachel Daly’s insurance goal in the 78th minute. The Red Storm finished non-conference play with a league-best 8-1 record.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Cathy Chukuka, Seton Hall, Jr., D
Chukuka anchored a back line which surrendered just one goal over 191 minutes of action last week for a 0.47 goals against average. Albany entered Sunday's contest with 11 goals in their last four games while against unbeaten Cornell, Chukuka was instrumental in keeping the team's top-two scorers off the scoresheet.
Emily Harris, Villanova, So., GK
In her first start of the season, Harris was credited with the Wildcats’ first win of 2015, earning the clean sheet in a 2-0 victory at Denver. The sophomore started both games in net last weekend, going 1-1 with five total stops.
Sophia Maccagnone, Butler, Sr., M
Maccagnone totaled three points off a goal and assist in a 1-1 week for Butler. The senior had the game winner at Bowling Green on Thursday before assisting on the Bulldogs’ lone goal at nationally ranked Kentucky on Sunday.
Rachel Piccus, Xavier, Jr., GK
Piccus made four saves in a narrow 2-1 setback to Ohio before totaling a career-high 13 stops, nearly doubling her previous career best, in a double-overtime scoreless draw with rival Cincinnati. Piccus played all 200 minutes last week, including the entire 110 against the Bearcats.
Lauren Sullivan, Creighton, Jr., F/M
Sullivan totaled five points in a 2-0 week, scoring a pair of goals, including the game winner, against Northern Colorado on Friday before adding an assist in a 2-0 win over Colorado State on Sunday.
