St. John’s, Marquette Share BIG EAST Weekly Volleyball Honors

NEW YORK  –  St. John’s senior outside hitter Karin Palgutova and Marquette freshman outside hitter earn BIG EAST Volleyball honors on Monday. Both student-athletes earn their second respective honor for the season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Karin Palgutova, St. John’s, Sr., OH, Bratislava, Slovakia – Averaged 4.11 points, 3.71 kills and 2.71 digs per set in a week against No. 5 Florida, No. 1 Penn State, Auburn and LIU Brooklyn.   Palgutova was named to the USF Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 4.00 kills and 2.62 digs per set. She recorded a double double with 26 kills and 18 digs to go along with five blocks. Ranked fourth in the conference in kills per set and fifth in points in another all-around performance that helped St. John’s go 2-2 for the week.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Taylor Louis, Marquette, RS-Fr. OH, Skokie, Ill. – Named to the Marquette Invitational All-Tournament team  as she led the conference in kills per set (4.92) and points per set (5.33). Also averaging 2.83 digs per set, Louis had two double doubles and two matches with 20 plus kills. Louis had 26 kills and 16 digs against Wichita State and 12 kills, 10 digs against IUPUI. Marquette went 2-1 for the week.
 
BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Smith, Creighton, Jr., MB, Lincoln, Neb. – Averaged 3.57 points and 2.79kills per set in a 2-2 week for Creighton against top competition including the No. 4 and No. 11 teams in the country. Added 1.50 blocks per set with a .346 attack percentage. Name d to the Creighton Classic All-Tournament Team and had 13 kills and six blocks on .267 hitting in a five set win over Kansas State.
 
Brittany Maxwell, DePaul, Fr., RS, Macomb, Mich. – Named Bradley Invitational MVP as she averaged 3.96 points and 3.69 kills per set.  Marked a career-high in kills with 21 against Southeast Missouri State. Finished the weekend with a .350 attacking percentage.
 
Kayla Fitzgerald, Providence, Jr., OH, Redlands, Calif. – Earned All-Tournament team honors at the Bucknell Invitational as she posted 4.77 points per set with 4.45 kills and 3.36 digs per set. Marked two double doubles on Saturday with 26 kills and 24 digs against Bucknell and 17 kills, 10 digs against Colgate.
 
Amanda Hansen, Seton Hall, Sr., MB, Pewaukee, Wis. – Helped Seton Hall to a 2-1 record with 3.96 points and 3.25 kills per set with a .352 attacking percentage. Hansen was named to the Cornell Invitational All-Tournament Team. Against Cornell, had a career-high 20 kills with five blocks, three digs and a .439 attack percentage.
 
Emma Pettit, Villanova, Sr., S, Fort Collins, Colo. – Named the MVP of the Big 5 Challenge as she helped Villanova to a 3-0 weekend with wins over Penn, La Salle and Temple. She averaged 11.5 assists per set with 2.2 digs per set and recorded a double-double vs. Temple with 47 assists and 10 digs. Also added two blocks and three aces.
