Marquette Sweeps Weekly Cross Country Awards

NEW YORK – Marquette’s Alec Miller and Brittney Feivor are this week’s winners of the BIG EAST Male & Female Athletes of the Week in Cross Country.
 
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Alec Miller, Marquette, So. – Miller finished 12th overall at the National Catholic Championships at the Burke Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.  The sophomore ran 8K in 25:29.5.  He helped the Golden Eagles finish sixth in a 13-team field.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Brittney Feivor, Marquette, Jr. – Feivor also competed at the National Catholic Championships and placed sixth individually with a time of 17:44.3 over 5K.  The Marquette women tied for fifth place in the team standings among 12 teams.

Xavier, DePaul Also Competed At The National Catholic Championships
Xavier took 11th and 12th place individually in the women’s competition at the National Catholic Championships.  Freshman Caroline Gosser placed 11th out of 299 runners with a time of 18:05.4.  Sarah Mazzei was right behind in 12th place with a time of 18:07.8.  The DePaul women also competed at the event and finished in ninth place. 
 
Butler’s Westerhoff Runs At Lavern Gibson
Butler junior Madeline Westerhoff paced the Bulldogs with a sixth place finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.  Her time over 5K was 20:07.
 
Georgetown, Villanova, Providence Men And Women Are Nationally Ranked
The Georgetown, Villanova and Providence men’s and women’s cross country teams are all ranked in the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Poll.  On the women’s side, Georgetown is fourth followed by Providence at No. 8 and Villanova at No. 24.  For the men, Villanova is No. 7 with Georgetown No. 15 and Providence No. 24.
