FH Minute: Connecticut Continues to Put up Big Numbers
Release
Breaking Down the RPI
The NCAA revealed its first RPI list of the season with the six BIG EAST teams ranging from No. 9 to No. 76. UConn led the league with the No. 9 spot, followed by Old Dominion at No. 17 and Georgetown at No. 43. Rounding out the group was Temple at No. 46, Providence at No. 51 and Villanova at No. 76
Taking On the Best
No. 15 Old Dominion has not shied away from facing stiff competition this year, as four of ODU’s seven opponents have been ranked in the NFHCA Poll. The Monarchs are 3-1 when facing a Top 20 team, with wins over Penn State, Michigan State, and Wake Forest. The lone loss came at the hands of No. 7Duke this past Sunday. They will hit the field with No. 19 James Madison on Sunday. No. 1 Connecticut is 2-0 this year against ranked teams and will take on No. 9 Stanford Friday, while Temple will meet JMU two days before the Dukes face ODU.
Keeping it in Connecticut
For the first three weeks of the season, No. 1 Connecticut’s Charlotte Veitner took home the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week award. However this week Veitner, the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, was dethroned by one of her own teammates in freshman Amanda Collins. Collins nabbed both Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week honors behind a three-goal, two-assist outing for a season-high eight points against Lafayette. Veitner’s three dishes in the win over the Leopards is the highest single-game assist total among BIG EAST teams this season.
