BIG EAST Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week
Christina Bellero, St. John’s, Fr., F
Bellero scored a goal in each road game last week, with none more important than the Red Storm’s overtime game winner at RV Boston College on Sunday evening. Just 25 seconds into the extra period, the St. John’s newcomer took a feed from Rachel Daly and struck from the left side, beating the BC keeper for her second game-winning goal of the season. Bellero also scored the Red Storm’s lone goal at Brown on Friday night as well, with her three shots tied for second most in the game behind teammate Daly.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Emma Newins, Georgetown, Grad., GK
Newins registered her second shutout of the season as the Hoyas won at Delaware 2-0. Newins made four saves, including a crucial stop in the 90th minute. The graduate student’s two clean sheets this season rank fourth in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Audra Ayotte, Georgetown, Grad., F – Ayotte scored the insurance goal at Delaware in the 60th minute off her lone strike of the game. It marked her third goal of the season.
Alexa Ben, DePaul, So., M – Ben notched a goal in each game last week, including the game-winner versus Army West Point on Friday afternoon. The sophomore was also credited with the Blue Demons’ lone score against Nebraska on Sunday.
Samantha Dewey, Xavier, Fr., F – Dewey shined in the abbreviated weekend after Friday’s game was called due to weather. The XU rookie totaled a hat trick against DIII foe Marian as the Musketeers scored a 5-0 victory.
Casey Etsey, Providence, Fr., F – Etsey had a goal and assist in the Friars’ 2-1 win over Maine on Thursday. The PC rookie recorded the go-ahead score with just 14 seconds left in regulation to lead Providence to its fourth win of the year.
Halle Stelbasky, Butler, Fr., F - Stelbasky totaled six points over three games last week, including both goals in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Evansville. The rookie also chipped in a goal in a narrow setback at Indiana State on Thursday.
