BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tabatha Richardson-Smith, Seton Hall, 6-0, Sr., G
Richardson-Smith led Seton Hall to a pair of wins last weekend by averaging 26.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and .559 shooting. The Pirates stretched their win streak to three games and jumped from fifth to third in the BIG EAST standings at the halfway point of the league play following weekend wins over visiting Xavier and Butler. Against the Musketeers on Friday, Richardson-Smith totaled 27 points, seven boards, five dimes and two steals while knocking down 11-of-19 shots, including 3-of-6 from deep. She followed that with a 26-point, 11-rebound, five-assist showing against the Bulldogs, draining 10-of-11 free-throw attempts. Through nine league games the senior leads the BIG EAST with a 24.0 scoring average, while listing fifth in rebounding (7.9). This is Richardson-Smith’s second consecutive BIG EAST Player of the Week certificate and third in the last four weeks.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Dionna White, Georgetown, 5-5, Fr., G
White notched her first career double-double in what was arguably the biggest win for the Hoyas under second-year head coach Natasha Adair. Georgetown upset RV/RV Villanova, 57-51, which entered the contest as winners of four straight and receiving votes in both national polls. White totaled game highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds while adding a pair of assists in the road win. She scored six fourth-quarter points to keep the Wildcats at bay. This is White’s fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor and first since Jan. 4.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Dorothy Adomako, Georgetown, 6-1, So., G
Adomako scored 13 points and grabbed six boards in the Hoyas’ win at RV/RV Villanova on Sunday. The sophomore sank a pair of free-throws with 25 seconds left to make it a two-possession game and seal the win for Georgetown.
Allazia Blockton, Marquette, 6-0, Fr., G
Blockton led Marquette to a pair of wins last weekend to stretch their unbeaten streak to three games, averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals. The freshman’s weekend was highlighted by a 21-point, seven-rebound, five-assist and five-steal showing against Creighton on Sunday afternoon.
Briana Glover, Xavier, 6-1, Sr., F
Glover eclipsed the 1,000-career-point mark on Sunday afternoon at St. John’s. For the weekend, she averaged 9.0 points per game in road tilts against the No. 2 and No.3 teams in the BIG EAST standings.
Megan Podkowa, DePaul, 6-2, Sr., G/F
Podkowa led first-place DePaul to back-to-back wins by averaging 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists off .765 shooting. The senior averaged under 20 minutes per game as the Blue Demons cruised to the wins, but still managed to score 16 per game.
Jade Walker, St. John’s, 6-1, Jr., F
Walker averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting .667 from the field in a 2-0 weekend for the Red Storm. Against Xavier on Sunday the junior totaled 20 points and 11 boards while making 9-of-12 attempts from the floor.
