Butler’s Logan Named Volleyball Player of the Week; Creighton Repeats Freshman Honor
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Anna Logan, Butler, Sr., OH (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Outside hitter Anna Logan helped Butler go 2-1 in conference play last week by contributing a double-double performance in each match. At Marquette, Logan exploded for 20 kills and 24 digs in a five-set loss to the Golden Eagles. She followed that effort with 17 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win vs. Villanova. The final match of the week featured Logan posting 14 kills and 10 digs against the Hoyas. For the week, Logan averaged 4.25 kills per set, hitting at a .240 clip. She came up with 51 total kills and 48 total digs. Her stat line also included two service aces and nine blocks, helping her reach 58 total points. Logan now has 12 double-doubles on the year and has collected 20+ kills on nine occasions. She was second in the league in kills and points for the week.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Brittany Witt, Creighton, Fr., L (Omaha, Neb.)
Freshman libero Brittany Witt repeats a BIG EAST Freshman of the week as she helped Creighton to a pair of home sweeps by averaging 4.33 digs, 1.83 assists and 0.17 aces per set. Witt had a match-high 17 digs in Friday’s win over St. John’s while adding seven assists and an ace. She then had nine digs and four assists in a 3-0 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday. Ten of Witt’s 26 digs were converted directly into kills, as were 11-of-20 serve receptions.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Smith, Creighton, Sr., MB (Lincoln, Neb.)
Creighton continued its unbeaten streak helped along by Smith who averaged 3.00 kills and 2.00 blocks per set while hitting .586 as the Bluejays swept a pair of opponents last week. Highlighting the week, Smith had had 18 kills and just one error on 29 swings as no team scored more than 18 points against Creighton.
Allie Barber, Marquette, Fr., OH (Cedarburg, Wis.)
In a 2-0 week for Marquette, averaged 2.65 points, 2.30 kills per set while hitting .367. Had a crucial fourth set performance against DePaul after the Golden Eagles were down 0-2. Her hitting percentage ranked 10th in the league for the week.
Taylor Louis, Marquette, RS-So., OH (Skokie, Ill.)
Averaged 4.70 points; 4.10 kills and 1.9 digs per set in a 2-0 week for Marquette, which included two five-set wins over Butler and DePaul.
Abby Thelen, Seton Hall, So., OH (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.)
Seton Hall split a pair of BIG EAST road matches helped by Thelan who averaged a team-best 3.43 kills per set and 3.50 points per set. At Providence, Thelen recorded a career-high 20 kills with only two attack errors for a .529 attack percentage with five digs and a block.
Regan Lough, Villanova, Fr., L (Riverside, Calif.)
Regan tallied 52 digs in the two matches over the weekend with 26 against Butler and 26 against Musketeers, both season highs for the freshman resulting in 6.50 digs per set, as she was a key piece to the Villanova defense holding Butler to hit .224 and Xavier to hit .227.
Sofia Peterson, Xavier, Sr., RS (Melbourne, Fla.)
In a 2-1 week for Xavier, averaged 3.8 points and 3.4 kills per set with a .438 attack percentage. She had 16 kills in a four-set win at DePaul and hit .667 vs. Georgetown. In a four-set loss to Villanova she had 16 kills.
