NEW YORK – A win over Providence on Friday propelled Liberty to become the second team to clinch a spot in the 2016 BIG EAST Championship. Pacing Liberty’s efforts, Agueda Moroni became the first player this year to garner BIG EAST offensive player and freshman of the week honors.
BIG EAST Offensive Player/ Freshman of the Week
Agueda Moroni, Liberty, Fr., M
Tallying six points on three goals, Moroni guided the Lady Flames to a win over Providence and a spot in the 2016 BIG EAST Championships. In Liberty’s come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Friars, the freshman delivered the equalizer in the 42nd minute and scored the game-winner in the 54th minute. Moroni concluded the weekend by securing her team-leading seventh goal of the season in a 5-1 loss to No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Erika Miller, Villanova, So., GK
Anchoring Villanova’s defense in a 3-2 overtime loss against Old Dominion, Miller helped the Wildcats stay close in the overtime matchup. The sophomore registered 11 saves including four consecutive saves in the first half. Her double-digit performance was her fifth this season.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Amanda Collins, UConn, So., F
Collins scored her 16th goal of the season in No. 1 UConn’s 5-3 win over Georgetown and recorded an assist in the Huskies’ 2-1 loss against No.5 Maryland.

The freshman sent Villanova’s game against ODU into overtime by notching her fifth goal of the season with just 46 seconds left in the second half.
Maddie Merton, Temple, Fr., M
Merton recorded two goals, including the game-winner, in the Owls’ much-needed 3-2 win against Quinnipiac.
Lindsey Getz, Georgetown, Fr.,
Getz led the Hoyas with six points, registering a goal against No. 1 UConn and two goals over Towson, including the game-winner.

Miller led the Friars in scoring last week, tallying at least one point in Providence’s games over Brown, Liberty and No. 14 Boston College.
