NEW YORK – Villanova’s Andy Butler has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week for the first time this fall and St. John’s freshman Linda Wang took BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week honors after winning the St. John’s Invitational. 
 
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Andy Butler, Villanova, Jr. – Butler shot a one-over-par 217 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in a meet that included 14 of GolfStat’s top 35 ranked teams.  Butler was a consistent performer, carding a 73 in the first round followed by a 72 in the second and third rounds.  He finished tied for 24th one stroke ahead of Stanford’s Maverick McNealy, who is considered the top amateur in the U.S.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Linda Wang, St. John’s, Fr. – Wang fired a 75 in each round of the 36-hole St. John’s Invitational to win the event at the Saint Andrew’s Golf Course.  Her total of 150 was six over par.  Wang’s 75 in the second round pushed her past teammate Kirsty Beckwith for a one-stroke victory.  Wang ended the fall season with three top-six showings.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Notes
Butler’s Rachel Gathof was the runner-up at the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate hosted by Evansville University.  Gathof shot a 36-hole score of 147 (73-74), which was three over par, at the Oak Meadow Country Club.  She helped the Bulldogs to a second-place finish…A trio of Georgetown players – freshman Ashley Fitzgibbons, sophomore Pendleton Bogache, junior Jacquelyn Eleey -- tied for fourth place at the Lehigh Invitational.  They shot 157 (+12) for 36 holes.  The Hoyas placed second as a team…Seton Hall’s Cassie Pantelas tied for fourth at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational with a 54-hole score of 229 (77-78-74), 16 over par.  The Pirates took fourth place in the event.  It was the junior’s sixth top 10 finish of her career.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Notes
St. John’s Gerald Mackedon finished second in the Lehigh Invitational with a two-round score of 145, one over par.  The Red Storm team finished fourth…Creighton juniors Trey Petit and Charlie Bolten each posted 54-hole totals of 235 at the Homewood Hilton Invite in Estero, Fla.  They tied for 41st in field of 91 competitors.
