Marquette tops DePaul in overtime to earn No. 1 seed and regular-season title share with Blue Demons, while Butler edges Creighton for the final slot with win at Xavier.

NEW YORK – Heading into the final night of the regular season, five of the six slots of the BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship, presented by Jeep, were spoken for but no seeds were solidified as first-round hosts and a bye were still up for grabs. In dramatic fashion, RV/- Marquette topped DePaul in overtime, 3-2, to snag the No. 1 seed and share the regular-season crown with the Blue Demons, as both squads finished with matching 7-2 BIG EAST records. Both teams earn automatic byes into the tournament semifinals.
 
Reigning BIG EAST Champion Butler claimed the final available spot in the field with a win over Xavier accompanied by Creighton’s loss to No. 10/7 Georgetown. The Bluejays entered the day with a two-point lead over the Bulldogs before Butlers’ win created a three-point swing. Top-seeded Marquette (11-6-2, 7-2-0 BIG EAST), second-seeded DePaul (10-6-2, 7-2-0) and sixth-seeded Butler (11-6-2, 4-4-1) are joined in the field by the No. 3 seed Hoyas (14-2-2, 6-1-2), fourth-seeded St. John’s (10-3-5, 5-2-2) and No. 5 seed Providence (11-6-2, 5-3-1).
 
BIG EAST Championship First Round action is set for Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the site of the higher seeds. Georgetown will host Butler at 2 p.m. before St. John’s welcomes Providence at 7 p.m. in a rematch of a game played just hours ago which went in favor of the Red Storm, 2-1. Both games can be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).
 
Marquette and DePaul await Tuesday’s winners in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, set for Nov. 4 at Georgetown’s Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. Both semifinal tilts will stream on BEDN. The Golden Eagles will face the St. John’s-Providence winner while the Georgetown-Butler victor gets the Blue Demons. The semifinal winners will square off at Shaw Field on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. in the title game. FS1 will provide complete coverage of the championship match.
