UConn’s Veitner and Providence’s Rozemeijer repeat with weekly conference honors

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Charlotte Veitner, UConn, Jr., F
Top ranked Connecticut’s 2-0 week was paced by Charlotte Veitner, who registered 10 points on four goals and two assists. The national leader in goals per game put up four goals and one assist in UConn’s 8-1 victory over UMass. Her performance was the third game this season that she recorded three or more goals. Veitner followed up with an assist against Providence, helping the Huskies stay perfect in conference play.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Nina Klein, UConn, R-Jr., GK
Playing 140 minutes in goal for the No. 1 Huskies, Klein tallied seven saves and her fourth shutout of the season. UConn opened the week with an 8-1 win over UMass, where the junior secured two saves and allowed just one goal. In conference play, Klein recorded five saves against Providence. Keeping the Friars from finding the back of the net, she helped UConn extend to an 11 game win streak and a 3-0 record in BIG EAST action.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Floor Rozemeijer, Providence, Fr., D
Leading Providence’s corner defense, Rozemeijer played a key role in limiting the nation’s top goal scorer, Charlotte Veitner, to just one assist. The strong defensive showing ended a four-game goal streak for Veitner. Rozemeijer also helped the Friars hold the Huskies to their lowest shot total of the season (8). She paced Providence’s defensive unit to become just the second team this season to hold UConn without a goal off of a penalty corner.  Rozemeijer and her fellow defenders also held the Huskies to a season-low one field goal as UConn’s first goal came on a penalty stroke.
