BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Abby Reed, DePaul, Sr., F
Reed was impressive in the offensive end of the field all week, leading the Blue Demons to back-to-back four-goal performances. On Thursday against Creighton, the senior forward notched a goal and two assists as DePaul held off the Bluejays, 4-2. Reed followed that showing with a two-goal, one-assist game in a 4-1 win at Seton Hall on Sunday. For the week, Reed totaled three goals and three assists for nine points, along with seven shots, five of which landed on target for a .714 percentage. The Blue Demons improved to 6-4-2 with their fifth win in a row, including 3-0-0 in BIG EAST play to be all alone in first place in the standings.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Morgan Proffitt, Marquette, Sr., D/M
Proffitt earns her first weekly award of the year after leading the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week, capped by a shutout victory over reigning regular-season champion RV/- St. John’s on Sunday. On top of helping keep St. John’s off the scoreboard, Proffitt was also credited with the game-winning goal, taking a beautiful strike from 20 yards out which beat the keeper in the upper left corner. The senior was also credited with an assist in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Seton Hall. Marquette has won four of its last five so stand all alone in third place in the BIG EAST at 2-1-0.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Kristyn Shea, Providence, Sr., GK
Shea earns her third Goalkeeper of the Week certificate of the season following another 2-0 week, which included an impressive shutout of Butler on Sunday afternoon. The senior made six saves against the Bulldogs who entered the contest on a six-game unbeaten streak. Butler topped Providence in the BIG EAST title game last season, 1-0. Shea was also credited with a 2-1 win over Xavier on Thursday, boasting a .900 save percentage and 0.48 goals against average in over 186 minutes in the cage last week. The Friars improved to 8-3-2 on the season and are unbeaten over their last five matches.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kristin Barbour, Villanova, Fr., M/D
Barbour posted her second multi-goal game of the season with two goals in Villanova’s 3-1 win over Creighton on Sunday. In the lone game of the week for the Wildcats, the rookie provided the game-winning goal in the 29
th minute before scoring the insurance goal in the 60
th. Villanova improved to 3-0 this season when scoring three goals and jumped to 1-1-0 in BIG EAST play. Barbour’s 13 points this season lead all BIG EAST freshmen as do her six goals.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Amanda Carolan, Georgetown, So., F
In the Hoyas’ lone game last week, Carolan provided the game-winning goal in the 21
st minute at Xavier on Sunday afternoon. The 2-0 win moved Georgetown to 9-1-1 on the season, unbeaten over its last nine tilts.
Maddy Henry, Marquette, Fr., GK
Henry posted a 2-0 record last week with an .875 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average, highlighted by a six-save shutout win over RV/- St. John’s. The Golden Eagles blanked the Red Storm 2-0 to move into third place in the BIG EAST standings.
Carrie Madden, Marquette, R-So., M/F
Madden helped Marquette to a 2-0 mark last week, scoring the game winner against Seton Hall on Thursday before assisting on Caroline Fink’s insurance goal in Sunday’s win over RV/- St. John’s.
Taylor Schissler, DePaul, Sr., D
Schissler was a leader on both ends of the field in a 2-0 week for DePaul, scoring two goals and adding an assist, while helping to limit the opposition to just eight total shots. The Blue Demons also won the battle of corners, 12-2, and enter the third week of BIG EAST play riding a five-game win streak.
Lauren Sullivan, Creighton, Sr., F/M
Sullivan scored a goal in each game last week, beginning Thursday at DePaul before wrapping up at Villanova on Sunday. The senior leads the BIG EAST in points (1.91 per game) and goals (0.82 per game) this season.
