Close Call
Moving into the fourth week of BIG EAST play four teams currently hold a 2-1 league record. Following conference leader, No.1 Connecticut (3-0), Providence, No. 13 Old Dominion, Liberty and Quinnipiac are all tied for second with two wins and one loss apiece. Two of the four teams will match up this weekend as the Friars visit the Bobcats on Saturday at noon.
National Polls
Connecticut held steady in the top spot in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week. Old Dominion joins the Huskies in the top 20, coming in at No. 13. UConn improved to 11-0 with victories over Massachusetts (8-1) and Providence (2-0) last week to remain as the only undefeated D1 team in the country. The Huskies had 952 points and received 29 first-place votes. Standing at 6-5 overall, Old Dominion went 1-1 this past weekend. The Monarchs saw a 2-1 overtime win against conference foe Liberty before falling to then-No.12 Virginia, 2-0.
Respectable Marks
The third RPI of the season was revealed on Monday with five teams now into the top 50. Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, Quinnipiac and Temple all saw an improvement in their respective RPIs, with the Owls and Wildcats making nine-point jumps to Nos. 30 and 67, respectively. The Huskies continue to lead the BIG EAST and the nation at No. 1, followed by ODU (12), Temple (30), Providence (35), Liberty (43), Georgetown (66), Villanova (67) and Quinnipiac (74).
