Villanova's Hart, Seton Hall's Powell Earn MBB Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – Villanova senior guard Josh Hart has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Seton Hall freshman guard Myles Powell has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Hart helped the Wildcats to a 4-0 week, which included a win at Purdue and the championship crown of the Charleston Classic.  Powell sparked Seton Hall to a road victory at Iowa in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

 

BIG EAST Player of the Week

Josh Hart, Villanova, G, Sr.

Hart led the Wildcats to a 4-0 week, which included a 79-76 win at No. 15/15 Purdue and MVP honors of the Charleston Classic.  Against Purdue, Hart scored a game-high 24 points.  For the four games in the week, Hart averaged 20.8 points, while shooting 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.  He had 30 points in a 96-77 win against Wake Forest.

 

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Myles Powell, Seton Hall, G, Fr.

Powell scored a team-high 26 points in helping lift the Pirates to a 91-83 win at Iowa in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.  In his first road game as a collegian, he shot 9-of-14 from the floor, 5-of-7 from 3-point range and scored eight points in the final four minutes of the contest. 

 

BIG EAST Honor Roll

Maurice Watson Jr., Creighton, G, Sr.

Averaged 12.3 points and 10.0 assists in a 3-0 week, which included a 79-67 win against No. 9/11 Wisconsin.

 

Rodney Bullock, Providence, F, Jr.

Averaged 21 points, six rebounds and shot 47 percent from 3-point range in a 2-1 week.  Had a career-high 27 points in a 72-67 loss at Ohio St.

 

Marcus LoVett, St. John’s, G, Fr.

Averaged 27.0 points and 4.5 assists in a 1-1 week.  Had 31 points and four assists in a 92-86 loss at Minnesota.

 

Desi Rodriguez, Seton Hall, F, Jr.

Scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half of a 91-83 comeback victory at Iowa.  Also had nine rebounds and three steals.

 

J.P. Macura, Xavier, G, Jr.

Averaged 18.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in a 4-0 week, which included Tire Pros Invitational All-Tournament Team honors.  Had a career-high 28 points in an 83-77 win over Clemson.
