#BEfútbol NCAA Third Round Kicks Off Saturday On FSGO
NEW YORK – Creighton and Providence upset the seeded teams to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. The Bluejays and Friars will now face off against each other for a chance to advance in the big dance. Chosen as the host by the NCAA, Creighton hosts Providence at Morrison Stadium at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 26. The game will stream on the FOXSportsGo app.
Creighton and Providence are two of three unseeded teams left in the tournament field.
Providence had the biggest upset of the second round, winning 5-4 over the No. 1 seed and previously unbeaten Maryland Terrapins. The Friars were down 4-1 with 20 minutes left and rallied with two goals scored within 30 seconds. Freshman defender Joao Serrano scored the eventual game-winner in the 82nd minute. Three goals scored in the rally were by first time goal scorers for the Friars.
In Lexington, Ky., Creighton got the job done with a 3-2 win over the No. 16 seed in the tournament, Kentucky. The Bluejays were up 2-0 in the first half before Kentucky cut it to one goal in the 68th minute. Co-Goalkeeper of the Year Alex Kapp made four saves in the win.
The BIG EAST is 4-1-1 so far in the 2016 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. Last weekend, in addition to wins by Creighton and Providence, Butler and SIUE were tied a 0-0 through 110 minutes. SIUE advanced in PK’s for the second-straight match, ending the BIG EAST Champion Bulldogs’ season.
The BIG EAST is guaranteed a team in the Quarterfinals regardless of the outcome. On the same note, the BIG EAST winner is guaranteed to face off against a team from the ACC -- either UNC or Syracuse. The Tar Heels and Orange will be battling out for home field advantage in the elite eight on Sunday, Nov. 27.
