MBB Minute -- Butler Stays Unbeaten, Wins At Utah
After jumping into the Associated Press poll at No. 18 earlier in the day, Butler finished a three-game road trip with a 68-59 victory at Utah on Monday. The Bulldogs handed the Utes their first loss of the season and their first home defeat to a non-league opponent in 33 games.
After building a 33-27 lead by halftime, Butler used a 9-0 spurt early in the second half to provide some cushion. The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points. Kelan Martin led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points. Tyler Wideman was 6-of-6 from the field and finished with 15 points. Butler outshot Utah from the floor 52.8 percent to 36.5 percent. Chris Holtmann is 52-22 (.703) as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
Of the 22 remaining undefeated teams in the nation, four are in the BIG EAST. In addition to Butler at 7-0, Villanova, Xavier and Creighton are all 6-0.
Going into Tuesday’s action, BIG EAST teams are 45-15 (.750).
Tuesday’s BIG EAST schedule includes four games. FS1 has a doubleheader with Xavier hosting North Dakota State at 6:30 p.m. ET and Creighton playing Buffalo at the CenturyLink Center at 8:30 p.m. St. John’s meets Delaware State at Carnesecca Arena at 6:30 p.m. FS2 will televise. Villanova battles city rival Pennsylvania at the Palestra at p.m. The game will be televised locally on CSNPhilly.
