No. 22 Creighton Setter Lydia Dimke Earned BIG EAST Player of the Week; Villanova Libero Regan Lough Named Freshman of the Week
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Lydia Dimke, Creighton, Jr., Setter (Ham Lake, MInn.)
Creighton junior setter Lydia Dimke had a pair of double-doubles to pace the Bluejays on both ends of the floor as Creighton swept Butler and Xavier to tie the BIG EAST record for the best league start in history at 14-0. The junior setter averaged 12.00 assists per set to go along with 3.67 digs and 1.17 kills. Dimke had match highs with both 36 assists and 12 digs while adding four kills in seven swings in a 3-0 win of Butler. She set the Creighton offense to .415 hitting, the fifth-best mark in program history. In the 3-0 sweep of Xavier, Dimke finished with a near identical stat line with 36 assists, 10 digs, four kills and an ace. She set the Bluejay offense to a .347 hitting percentage. In the second set, with Creighton trailing 17-11, Dimke served up five straight points to Get Creighton within one point. The sweep of Xavier was the 16th for Creighton in 2016.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Regan Lough, Villanova, Fr., Libero (Riverside, Calif.)
Villanova freshman libero Regan Lough averaged 4.40 digs per set in two five-set matches for the Wildcats. Villanova went 1-1 over the weekend with a 3-2 win at St. John’s and a 3-2 loss at Seton Hall, but Lough helped all she could on defense with 25 digs at St. John’s and 19 at Seton Hall. She has reached double figures in digs in each of the last eight matches and has eclipsed 20 digs in six matches this season. She also contributed on offense with a combined seven assists on the weekend.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Anna Logan, Butler, So., OH (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Logan helped the Bulldogs post a 1-1 record last week. Although limited to six kills and seven digs at Creighton, Logan bounced back with a 20 kill, 15 dig performance at Providence. Logan averaged 4.0 points, 3.71 kills, 3.14 digs per set for the week.
Jenna Rosenthal, Marquette, RS-So., MH (Fond du Lac, Wis.)
Rosenthal helped Marquette advance to a three-match winning streak as the sophomore averaged 4.33 points, 3.0 kills and 1.33 blocks per set in a 3-0 sweep of DePaul. Rosenthal had a .750 attack percentage with nine kills and zero errors in 12 swings.
Dominque Mason, Seton Hall, Jr., OH (Chicago, Ill.)
Mason helped Seton Hall to a 2-0 weekend with a 3-1 win over Georgetown and a 3-2 victory over Villanova. She averaged 4.22 kills with a .360 attack percentage. Mason had a career high 22 kills with only three attack errors for a .487 attack percentage in the win over Georgetown. In the five-set win against Villanova, Mason had a 16-kill night with just four attack errors.
Gaia Traballi, St. John’s Fr., OH (Milan, Italy)
Traballi helped St. John’s to a 1-1 week with 3.35 points and 2.90 kills per set with 2.10 digs. Traballi had a double-double in the 3-2 win over Georgetown with 11 kills and 12 digs. She had 18 kills in the five-set loss to Villanova.
Abbey Bessler, Xavier, Sr., OH (Hebron, Ky.)
Bessler averaged 3.29 kills per set totaling 23 kills as the Musketeers went 1-1. Bessler also added 3.29 digs per set with a .229 attack percentage. Bessler also added two blocks and five service aces in a 3-1 win over Providence and 3-0 loss to Creighton.
