BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Scott Carpenter, Georgetown, Sr., Distance (Lenox, Mass.)
Georgetown senior Scott Carpenter ran 14:00.16 to finish fourth overall at the Indiana Hoosier Open on Friday. His time was more than six seconds faster than his outdoor best in the event and a 21-second improvement from his fastest indoor mark from 2015-16. He ranks third in the country and tops the BIG EAST Conference in the event. He raced directly against the two runners ahead of him on the NCAA list. He currently owns the 10th-fastest time in Georgetown program history.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Kolby Koeck, Villanova, Sr., Pole Vault (Altoona, Pa.)
Senior Kolby Koeck finished fifth in the pole vault at the Lehigh Fast Times meet on Friday with a height of 4.25 meters. His distance marks the third best in the league so far this season.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Maya Stephens, St. John’s, Jr., Sprints (Toronto, Canada)
Junior sprinter Maya Stephens marked not one but two top 25 NCAA times over the weekend at the Seventh Annual Bill Ward Invite in South Huntington, N.Y. Stephens won both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash. Her time, which was converted, of 25.05 seconds (24.67) in the 200-meter dash tops the BIG EAST chart and is 22nd in the country. Her 400 time of 57.51 (56.76) also leads the league and ranks 15th in the country. .
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Terica Harris, Marquette, Jr., Jumps/Sprints (Savannah, Ga.)
Junior Terica Harris won the long jump at the UW-Parkside Fall Finale on Friday with a personal best of 5.70 meters. The mark was fifth best all-time at Marquette. Her jump ranks second in the BIG EAST. She also finished runner up in the 55-meter dash with a PR of 7.21 seconds, good enough for No. 4 all-time at Marquette.
Notable Performances
- Butler’s Euan Makepeace won the men’s mile at the IU Hoosier Open on Friday with a time that leads the conference and is third in the NCAA. He led wire-to-wire to finish at 4:08.93
- Makepeace’s teammate Olivia Pratt also had a standout performance at the Hoosier Open with a lifetime best 5k time of 15:57.40, just shy of Mara Olson’s school record. She became the first Butler women’s runner to break 16:00 twice indoors. Her time places her sixth on the NCAA list and third in the BIG EAST.
- St. John’s junior thrower Nyla Woods took home two individual titles at the Bill Ward Invite. She won the shot put and weight throw. Her throw of 16.71 meters in the weight throw ranks second in the league.
