Villanova held Temple to 16 points in the first half and pulled away for a 78-57 victory at The Pavilion on Tuesday.  Josh Hart, the reigning USBWA and NBC Sports National Player of the Week, led the charge with a game-high 26 points.

The victory gave the No. 1 ranked Wildcats an 11-0 record and established a school mark for consecutive victories with 17, which includes last season’s 6-0 run through the NCAA Tournament.  The win also gave Villanova its 18th straight triumph in the Philadelphia Big Five series.  Every win was by a double-digit margin.

Hart has averaged 31.5 points over his last two contests and leads the squad in scoring (20.1), rebounding (6.5) and assists (3.7).

On Wednesday, for the third straight day, there is only one BIG EAST team in action.  DePaul (5-3) hosts local foe UIC on FS1 at 8 p.m. ET.  The Blue Demons are 5-3 after losing to Temple 74-65 on Saturday.  Over the last six seasons, DePaul is 15-3 against Chicago area opponents.

After 100 games played by BIG EAST teams this season, the league’s non-conference record is 77-23 (.770).  The BIG EAST is 8-5 against AP ranked teams.

After Wednesday’s DePaul game, the BIG EAST schedule is dark until Saturday.
