Providence SAAC Leads Efforts in Adopt A Family Project For Christmas
Release from Providence Athletics
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Athletics, led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council joined forces with the DaVinci Center to provide Christmas gifts to 130 local children.
The Adopt a Family Project is a program set in place by the DaVinci Center, which exists to improve the quality of life for the residents in the North End of Providence. The families work with the center throughout the year in a variety of ways. This specific program matches donors with needy children to provide gifts of clothing and toys during the Christmas season.
All 19 varsity athletic sports teams at Providence College were assigned a group of children to help provide for. Led by women’s ice hockey senior Ariana Buxman and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, over 130 children will receive at least one gift on Christmas morning.
Executive Director, John DeLuca, met members of the women’s ice hockey team upon delivery of the gifts and has referred to the yearly help as "a gift from heaven" because he worried how he would find enough sponsors to help the over 300 families in need.
