MBB Minute -- Seven-Game Saturday Ahead
Thursday and Friday are dark on the BIG EAST schedule, but a seven-game Saturday is on the horizon.
At noon ET, two BIG EAST teams sporting four-game winning streaks are in action. Providence (8-2) hosts Wagner on FS1. Friar forward Rodney Bullock leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 21.3 average. Georgetown (6-4) makes what used to be a familiar road trip, traveling to play Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on ESPN. Hoya guard Rodney Pryor is second to Bullock in the league in scoring at 20.6 ppg. Georgetown won last year's meeting 79-72 at the Verizon Center.
DePaul tries to get back on the winning track at home against Chicago State at 2 p.m. The Blue Demons (5-4) lost to UIC 80-75 on Wednesday. Guards Eli Cain and Billy Garrett Jr. provided most of the offense with 27 and 26 points, respectively.
No. 18/18 Butler takes on No. 9/9 Indiana in the annual Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. The Bulldogs (9-1) have split their last four meetings against the Hoosiers with two of the games coming in the Crossroads Classic (2012, 2014). Kelan Martin leads Butler with a 17.7 scoring average.
FS2 has a doubleheader that starts at 6 p.m. with Seton Hall hosting Delaware. The Pirates (8-2) are coming off a 67-64 win over previously unbeaten South Carolina on Monday. The second game of the twinbill has Creighton (10-0) meeting Oral Roberts at CenturyLink Center. Bluejay guard Maurice Watson Jr. leads the nation in assists with a 9.1 average.
No. 17/17 Xavier and Wake Forest are playing in the Skip Prosser Classic, honoring the late coach who spent time as the head coach at both schools. Trevon Bluiett leads the Musketeers offensively with a 19.2 scoring average. FS1 will televise at 8 p.m.
On Sunday morning at 11 a.m., St. John’s plays Penn State in the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival on FS1.
Entering the weekend, the league’s non-conference record is 77-24 (.763). The BIG EAST is 8-5 against AP ranked teams.
