MBB Minute -- Georgetown Extends Winning Streak To Six
Georgetown has a six-game winning streak heading into conference play after Thursday’s 78-56 victory over UNC-Greensboro. Jesse Govan was the catalyst, registering 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots. L.J. Peak and Marcus Derrickson added 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Hoyas open BIG EAST competition at Marquette on Dec. 28.
DePaul, the only other BIG EAST team in action on Thursday, was a victim of sub-par shooting, making a season-low 28.2 percent in a 72-58 loss to Wyoming in the Las Vegas Invitational. Tre’Darius McCallum led the Blue Demons with 18 points and six rebounds. Billy Garrett Jr. contributed 17 points. Eli Cain, the team’s leading scorer, was held to five points.
Three BIG EAST squads are in action on Friday with Providence traveling to Boston College for a 4 p.m. ET start on ESPNU. The Friars, who have won six in a row, will battle the Eagles for the 111
th time. PC won 66-51 in Providence last December.
Seton Hall hosts Rutgers in the Garden State Hardwood Classic on FS1 at 6:30 p.m. Eighteen of the previous 21 meetings between the two teams have been decided by six points or less or in overtime, though the Pirates won last year’s game 84-55. The game is sold out.
DePaul completes play in the Las Vegas Invitational against Missouri State, also on FS1. Tipoff is 8:30 p.m. The two teams have already met this season with the Blue Demons winning 68-66 on Nov. 23.
Going into Friday, BIG EAST teams are 94-26 (.783). The BIG EAST is 9-5 against AP Top 25 teams.
