MBB Minute -- Seton Hall Beats Rutgers To Win Garden State Hardwood Trophy
Seton Hall outscored Rutgers 49-29 in the second half to record a 72-61 victory Friday night before a sellout crowd of 10,481 at the Prudential Center. The Pirates, who trailed 32-23 at halftime, earned the Garden State Hardwood Classic trophy in the annual meeting between the two teams.
Khadeen Carrington scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, but the rebounding prowess of Angel Delgado and Ismael Sanogo also proved decisive. Both players pulled down 16 boards. Delgado also scored 19 points to win game MVP honors.
Providence had its six-game winning streak end at Boston College with a 79-67 defeat. The Friars led 29-25 at half, but the Eagles shot 71.4 percent from the floor in the second half to rally for the victory. Rodney Bullock, who ranks third in the BIG EAST with a 19.4 scoring average, had a game-high 23 points. Emmitt Holt finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
DePaul was not very lucky in Las Vegas for the past two nights while competing in the Las Vegas Invitational. The Blue Demons lost on Friday to Missouri State 79-67. DePaul shot 31.6 percent from the floor against the Bears after shooting 28.2 percent in Thursday’s loss to Wyoming. Billy Garrett Jr. made the All-Tournament Team. He had 16 points against Missouri State.
BIG EAST Conference play starts on Dec. 28. With only four non-conference games remaining in the season, BIG EAST teams have compiled a 95-28 (.772) record. The BIG EAST is 9-5 against AP Top 25 teams.
