NEW YORK – After a competitive showing at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships, Villanova secures the BIG EAST Male and Female Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week in Jake Hoin and Darby Goodwin. Both Hoin and Goodwin, registered top times in the conference and NCAA B standard qualifying times.
BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week
Jake Hoin, Villanova, Jr.
Competing at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships in Atlanta, the Wildcat junior set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.29, which is the top time in the BIG EAST and a NCAA B qualifying time.

Darby Goodwin, Villanova, So.
Goodwin earned her second BIG EAST weekly honor this year after helping Villanova’s women’s team to a fifth place finish out of 14 collegiate teams at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships. Individually, the sophomore swam in the 100-yard (53.93) and 200-yard backstroke (1:57.64), finishing with NCAA B cut times, which are also the top times in the conference this season. Goodwin was also a part of the 200-yard (1:32.20), 400-yard (3:21.49) and 800-yard (7:23.09) freestyle relays, as well as the 200-yard (1:41.69) and 400-yard (3:45.16) medley relays that all finished in the top eight at the meet.
Notable Performances
Molly Fitzpatrick, Georgetown, Jr.
Fitzpatrick kept busy as she claimed two individual events, set two school records and registered two NCAA B qualifying times at the three-day Bucknell Invitational. The junior helped the Hoyas set a new school record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:45.76, while breaking Georgetown’s record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA B qualifying time of 1:01.69. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:13.52, second in the 200-yard medley relay and finished fifth in the 200-yard IM "A" Final.
Martin Vanin, Georgetown, Sr.
The veteran set the Georgetown record in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 49.17 in Saturday's prelim and finishing fifth overall in the "A" Final with a 49.64 at the Bucknell Invitational. Vanin was also part of the men's 400-yard medley relay team that finished sixth with a time of 3:23.69.
Knox Hitt, Xavier, GS.
At the AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta, Knox Hitt became the first Musketeer in school history to advance to a finals heat at the USA Swimming event. On Friday, Hitt used a time of 49.12 in the 100 fly prelim to finish among the top 24 competitors, earning a spot in one of the three finals heats. In the C Final, Hitt placed eighth with a time of 49.75. Hitt also competed in the 50-yard freestyle while taking part in the 800 free relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
