MBB Minute -- Creighton, Seton Hall Grab Wins Away From Home
Creighton and Seton Hall posted wins in their blue road jerseys Wednesday night, while Butler and Xavier, also on the road, absorbed close defeats.
Playing its first true road game of the season, No. 10/10 Creighton improved to 9-0 with a 77-62 win at Nebraska. Maurice Watson Jr. posted game highs of 25 points and eight assists. Cole Huff was 4-of-5 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points. Creighton shot 50.8 percent from the field to maintain its streak of being the only team nationally to shoot 50 percent or better in every game this season.
Seton Hall battled past California 60-57 in the Pearl Harbor Invitational. Angel Delgado produced his third straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Pirates (7-2) took the lead for good with 9:44 remaining, then held off the Golden Bears until the final buzzer. Desi Rodriguez added 15 points. Delgado leads the BIG EAST in rebounding with a 10.9 average.
Butler lost for the first time this season, dropping a 72-71 decision at Indiana State on a free throw with 1.5 seconds left. Andrew Chrabascz led the Bulldogs (8-1) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Lewis added 15 points and seven assists. His two free throws with 11.5 seconds left tied the game 71-71. Kelan Martin was limited to 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting.
Xavier lost 68-66 at Colorado despite a career-high 27 points by Trevon Bluiett. The Musketeers (7-2) led by nine points early in the second half, but Colorado put together a 15-0 run midway through the half to take the lead. RaShid Gaston added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
St. John’s is the only BIG EAST team in action on Thursday. The Red Storm host Fordham at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1. St. John’s has won its last two games. It will be the 88
th meeting between the two schools.
