BIG EAST Player of the Week
Danaejah Grant, St. John’s, 5-9, Sr., G
Grant was remarkably efficient and effective last week, averaging 28.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and .556 shooting while committing just one turnover in 76 minutes of action. The senior totaled 29 points, six boards and two steals in Friday’s win at Xavier before going for 27 points and 11 boards in the setback at Butler on Sunday. Grant was the conference’s top scorer among players with multiple games last week while listing fourth in rebounding. Grant enters the final week of the regular season as the BIG EAST’s leading scorer overall (20.0), while ranking second in league games (20.4) to Seton Hall’s Tabatha Richardson-Smith (22.4).
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Adrianna Hahn, Villanova, 5-6, Fr., G
With 26-game starter Caroline Coyer sidelined, Adrianna Hahn took her first career start on the road at Georgetown on Sunday, which dealt Villanova a loss earlier in the season. Hahn played a career-high 37 minutes and totaled a career-best 29 points off 10-of-18 shooting, leading the Wildcats to the come-from-behind win, 63-60. Hahn scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Nova erased a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to clinch head coach Harry Perretta’s 700
th career win. Hahn drained 6-of-12 attempts from deep to match her career standards for triples. This is her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor and the first for a Villanova rookie since current sophomore Alex Louin was tabbed on Nov. 24, 2014.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Erika Davenport, Marquette, 5-11, Fr., F
Davenport averaged just shy of a double-double at 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, while shooting .680 from the field in a 1-1 weekend. At Providence on Sunday the rookie totaled 22 points, nine boards and a pair of dimes.
Tiffany Jones, Seton Hall, 6-3, Sr., F
Jones was the BIG EAST’s top rebounder last week at 15.0 boards per contest, notching back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of road wins to move the Pirates into a second-place tie in the BIG EAST standings. She totaled 14 points, 14 boards and three blocks in a win at Butler on Friday before going for 14 points, 16 caroms and two swats in a win at Xavier on Sunday.
Blaire Langlois, Butler, 5-8, Sr., G
In a 1-1 weekend for the Bulldogs, Langlois averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, highlighted by a 16-point, six-assist showing on senior day in which Butler upset -/RV St. John’s.
Yoyo Nogic, Providence, 6-1, Fr., G
The Friars had their highest scoring weekend of the season thanks in part to Nogic’s 19.5 average, .600 field goal percentage and 4.0 assists. The rookie shot 9-of-11 towards 20 points against No. 21/19 DePaul on Friday night before totaling 19 points and seven dimes against Marquette on Sunday.
Megan Podkowa, DePaul, 6-2, Sr., G/F
In a 2-0 weekend for the regular-season champs, Podkowa averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while her .722 field goal percentage led all league players. At Providence on Friday she shot 9-of-10 from the floor towards 21 points in just 24 minutes as DePaul clinched the regular-season crown outright with the win.
