Final Indoor T&F Weekly Awards Go To Four Different Schools

NEW YORK – Two days away from the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships Presented by the Jeep Brand and four different schools are represented in the final weekly awards of the indoor track & field season. Of the four, only one is a repeat winner.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
ERIK BAUGH, Butler, Fr., Edgewood, Ky., Distance
Baugh paced a trio of Butler distance athletes who took the top three spots in the men’s 1,000-meter run. He led the way, taking the win in 2:32.50 at Eastern Illinois University’s Friday Night Special.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
ZACHARY POLK, Xavier, So., Hilton Head, S.C., Multi-events
Competing in the high jump for the first time since high school, Zachary Polk placed second in the event at the Buckeye Tune-up on Friday, Feb. 19. His jump of 1.95 meters (6’ 4.75”) ranks as the top BIG EAST performance this season. It is his second weekly award this season.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
HEATHER MARTIN, Georgetown, Sr., Mid-Distance
Heather Martin’s 2:04.93 was a PR for the senior and made her the sixth Hoya in program history to break 2:05 in the women’s 800-meter run. It was the fastest 800-meter time from the Conference over the weekend and ranked fourth in the league as well as 19th nationally.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
MAYA MARION, Marquette, So., Aurora, Ill.
Marion set a personal best mark by nearly three feet in the weight throw with a toss of 17.07 meters (56’ 0”), which ranks sixth all-time at Marquette and is good for fourth-best in the conference this year.
 
NOTEABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Marquette’s Cassy Goodrich set personal-best marks in both the 60-meter dash and long jump at the Red & White Open on Friday in Madison, Wis. Her 60 time of 7.66 seconds ranks fourth all-time in Marquette history and is third in the BIG EAST this season.  She also competed in the long jump and set the fourth-longest distance in the BIG EAST and No. 7 mark all-time for Marquette with a leap of 5.61 meters. Teammate Joe McBride also made a mark in the Marquette record books, with a seventh place finish in the weight throw at 17.52 meters. McBride’s throw ranks seventh all time at Marquette.
  • St. John’s 4x200-meter relay team of Pariis Garcia, Shenika King, Maya Stephens and Claire Mooney finished third in the relay at the Millrose Games but broke a school record with a time of 1:39.20. The previous record was set last year (1:39.54) by Garcia, King, Stephens and LaTasha Collins. Additionally, in the Millrose Games Weight Throw event, the Red Storm finished second, third and fourth, gearing up for the BIG EAST Championship, with Nyla Woods, Ann Dagrin and Patricia Clark.
