MBB Minute: Three Hoyas Score 20+ In Win Over Red Storm
Georgetown shot a season-high 54.2 percent from the floor and had three players score at least 20 points in Monday’s 92-67 win over visiting St. John’s.
D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera hit for a game-high 24 points. Isaac Copeland contributed 23 points and eight rebounds. L.J. Peak added 20 points and six rebounds. The trio shot a combined 23-of-38 (.605) from the field.
Christian Jones came off the bench to record 14 points and nine rebounds for the Red Storm.
Georgetown moved into fourth place in the BIG EAST standings with a 7-5 record.
The two BIG EAST games on Tuesday’s schedule inlcude the conference’s top two ranked teams.
Newly-minted No. 1 Villanova travels to DePaul for an 8:30 p.m. ET tipoff on FS1. The 20-3 Wildcats sit atop the BIG EAST standings at 10-1. The No. 1 ranking is the first in school history for Villanova. Since the BIG EAST has been in its current 10-team alignment, the Wildcats are 42-5 in regular-season league play.
DePaul’s Myke Henry is coming off back-to-back 20-point games and is 10th in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 15.0 average.
No. 5/4 Xavier plays at Creighton on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. The 21-2 Musketeers are a game behind Villanova in the standings with a 9-2 league mark.
Creighton is averaging 80.9 points per game and is 13-0 when scoring above that mark. Xavier is giving up only 68.6 points per game and is 15th nationally in rebound margin at 8.9. All six meetings between the two teams in Omaha have been decided by seven points or less.
