Froccaro, Ready Earn MLAX BIG EAST Weekly Honors For Second Time

NEW YORK  –  Villanova earns its third men's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week in a row as junior midfielder Jake Froccaro nabs the honor for the second time this season. Denver rookie keeper Alex Ready also receives his second player of the week accolade as he is the Defensive Player of the Week for a 14-save performance to send Denver past the other No. 1 team in the country, Notre Dame.
 
Denver was ranked No. 1 by the USILA Coaches last week, and No. 2 in the media poll. Notre Dame was No. 1 in the media poll, No. 2 in the coaches poll.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Froccaro, Villanova, Jr., A
Jake Froccaro scored seven goals in a 16-8 win over Penn on Saturday helping Villanova improve to 4-1 on the season. His seven goals were just one away from tying his career and league high of eight set against Penn State earlier this season. Froccaro ranks first in the NCAA averaging 5.20 goals per game.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Ready, Denver, Fr., GK
Alex Ready had a season-high 14 saves, including nine in the first half to help Denver defeat Notre Dame on Sunday, the No. 2/1 team in the country. In the first half, Ready limited the Irish to just two goals. Ready had a key save with :01 seconds on the clock to preserve the 8-8 tie and force the game into overtime. He followed his save causing a turnover and picking up the ground ball in the final scramble as the regulation horn blew.
 
BIG EAST Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll
Zach Miller, Denver, Jr., M
Scored the game-winning goal in overtime against No. 2/1 Notre Dame to send Denver to its 19th-straight win. Miller had three goals and an assist in the road contest. Notre Dame had allowed just 5.5 goals per game entering Sunday’s match up.
 
Joe Bucci, Georgetown, GS, M
Bucci had seven goals and an assist in an 0-2 week for the Hoyas. He scored five goals in a 10-9 loss to Hobart on Saturday.
 
Liam Byrnes, Marquette, GS, D
Tied a program-record with nine ground balls and caused four Robert Morris turnovers in Saturday’s 13-5 victory. Byrnes was part of a defensive effort that held RMU’s leading scorer Luke Laszkiewicz pointless for the first time in his last seven games.
 
Conor Gately, Marquette, Sr., A
Recorded his second hat trick in a row and added a pair of assists for a game-high five points in a 13-5 win over Robert Morris. He sparked the MU offense to a season-high goal output.
 
Will Mazzone, Providence, Sr., A
Mazzone had three goals and one assists for four point sin the Friars 13-12 loss at High Point. High Point was receiving votes in last week’s poll.
