Tellez, Gutierrez Earn Weekly Softball Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – DePaul’s Naomi Tellez belted three home runs en route to being named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Butler’s Kristin Gutierrez tossed a no-hitter on her way to BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors.

Naomi Tellez, DePaul, Sr., C
Tellez was a force at the plate, batting .800 in 10 at bats, leading the Blue Demons to a 3-2 record for the weekend. The senior catcher knocked in six runs and scored five of her own, tallying a hit in all five games played and recording a 1.700 slugging percentage. Against Utah State on Saturday, Tellez went 3-for-3 with two long balls, finishing with three RBIs and scoring three runs.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Kristin Gutierrez, Butler, Sr.
Gutierrez was commanding in three appearances in the circle, throwing a no-hitter against Northern Kentucky to start the week, allowing just three walks while fanning five. Against Western Michigan, she had an eight-inning shutout in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 win that included seven strikeouts. Two days later, she allowed just one run on six hits while striking out eight in a 3-1 victory against Detroit.
 
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Kaitlin Doud, Butler, Fr., INF
Doud hit .391 and drove in nine runs in eight games for the Bulldogs this week.
Lauren Herschberg, Villanova, Jr., INF
Herschberg batted .333 with five RBIs for the Wildcats at the University of Delaware Invitational.
Allie Reinhart, Creighton, Jr., OF
Reinhart helped Creighton to a 5-1 week by hitting .556, driving in five runs and scoring four times.
Micaela Whitney, Creighton, Sr., P
Whitney went 1-0 with a save and a 0.62 ERA in three appearances. In 11.1 innings of work, she allowed eight hits and one run, striking out 18, including a career-high 13 against Hampton.
Lauren Zick, St. John’s, So., OF
Zick batted .500 for the Red Storm, recording a hit in each of their four contests while swiping two bases.
