NEW YORK  –  Villanova’s Devin McNamara has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week; while Georgetown’s Nick Marrocco was named Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday. A 7-3 week for BIG EAST men’s lacrosse in non-conference action led to at least one win for all six teams.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Devin McNamara, Villanova, Jr., A
McNamara tallied 11 points in a 2-0 week for Villanova for a total of five goals and six assists. In a high-scoring defeat of Delaware on Saturday, McNamra registered a career-high seven points via four goals and three assists en route to a record-setting goal day for Villanova. The Wildcats defeated the Blue Hens 23-12. His four goals also matched a career high. Against Drexel on Tuesday, McNamara notched a goal and three assists to help in a 14-9 win.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Marrocco, Georgetown, So., GK
Marrocco had a 26-save 1-1 week in net for the Hoyas, helping Georgetown get its first win of the season with an upset over then-No. 8/9 Hofstra on Saturday. Marrocco had 15 saves against Hofstra and limited the Pride’s offense to just six goals. Marrocco’s save percentage for the week was .605.
 
BIG EAST Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll
Zach Miller, Denver, Jr., M
Miller had five points with a game-high four goals, including the game-tying goal with nine seconds to go in regulation against No. 9/10 North Carolina. Denver on in overtime, 13-12.
 
Peter Conley, Georgetown, Jr., M
Conley had nine points for the week, six goals and three assists. He scored two goals with four assists to lead Georgetown past No. 8/9 Hofstra, 11-6.
 
Will Mazzone, Providence, Sr., A
Recorded two goals in Providence’s 11-8 win over Sacred Heart. Also added an assist.
 
Zachary Melillo, Marquette, So., FOGO
Melillo won his first 18 faceoffs in Sunday’s victory over Detroit and picked up nine ground balls to help the Golden Eagles secure possession. Went 11-of-24 and picked up six ground balls against Ohio State on Friday.
 
Jason DeBenedictis, St. John’s, So. A
In a 1-1 week for St. John’s, DeBenedictis tallied eight goals with two assists. The sophomore had six points in the win against Siena, a career high.
