CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Seton Hall moved into the first place on the second day of competition in the BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship Presented by the Jeep Brand, but the title is still up for grabs on Sunday’s final day with Georgetown, Xavier and Butler within striking range of the first-place Pirates.

Seton Hall’s jump into first came after the Pirates put together a team of score of 303, 15 strokes better than Friday’s 318.  After Saturday, Georgetown is seven strokes behind at 628.  Xavier is third at 630 and Butler is fourth at 633.

Going into the Saturday’s play, Xavier was the team leader, ahead of Georgetown by three strokes and Seton Hall by five.  Seton Hall will be aiming for its third straight BIG EAST title on Sunday.

“We saved our best round of the year for the middle round of the BIG EAST,” said Seton Hall coach Sara Doell.  “The opportunity that our players have put themselves into for a three-peat is very exciting.”

Four of the five Seton Hall golfers improved their scores from Friday’s first round.  Sophomore Cassie Pantelas made the biggest improvement, carding a one-over-par 73 after shooting an 80 in the first round.  Pantelas sits in fourth place on the individual leaderboard at 153.

Georgetown senior Mackenzie Boydston is atop the leaderboard with a two-day score of 145.  She shot a one-under-par 71 on Saturday and was the only golfer under par for the day.  Boydston began the day tied for the lead with Xavier senior Shane Crutchfield after both shot a 74 on Friday.  Crutchfield carded a 73 on Saturday and is two strokes behind Boydston at 147.
St. John’s senior Anna Kim is in third place with a two-round score of 149.  She shot a 74 on Saturday.

In addition to Pantelas in fourth place, three other Pirates are in the top 10.  Senior Karlie Zabrosky is fifth, one stroke behind Pantelas at 154.  Graduate student McKenzie Cutter is eighth at 156 and senior Megan Tenhunfeld is tied for 10th at 158.
Butler’s top player is sophomore Kelsey McDougall, who is tied for sixth at 155. Freshman Lauren Tibbets is ninth at 157.
The BIG EAST champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The final round of competition begins Sunday at 8 a.m. ET.
