Four New Faces Named BIG EAST Track & Field Weekly Honorees
NEW YORK – Georgetown, Marquette and Villanova represented the conference well over the past weekend with personal bests that ranked in the regional and national performance lists. All four weekly award winners are first time winners for this outdoor season.
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
JOSEPH WHITE, Georgetown, So., Middle Distance
White set a new personal record in the 800-meter with a first place finish of 1:46.67 at the Stanford Twilight Meet. His time is the best in the league, sixth in the East and eighth in the NCAA.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
JOHN KRZYSZKOWSKI, Marquette, Jr., Throws
Krzyszkowski broke his own school-record in the javelin by more than 12 feet with a toss of 69.39 meters (227 feet, eight inches). The junior won the Illinois Twilight meet event as his throw tops the BIG EAST this season with the closest competitor coming nearly 41 feet shy of his mark. Krzyszkowski’s performance ranks 14th in the West Region and 31st nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
KATRINA COOGAN, Georgetown, Sr., Distance
Coogan ran the 5,000-meter run at the UVA Challenge over the weekend. Her time was the best collegiate time from the meet, good enough for second place overall. It was the fifth-fastest time from NCAA Division I and ranks third in the East. Coogan leads the league this season as well.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
ANNE YAHIRO, Villanova, Sr. Jumps
Tallied the BIG EAST leading mark in the triple jump with a mark of 12.17 meters at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The mark is the best of the season and the third best of her career. She has cleared 12 meters eight times in her career, including five times during the outdoor season. Her finish was sixth at the meet and ranks 66th in the East.

- Villanova’s Siofra Cleirigh Buttner was runner up in the Elite section of the 800-meter run at the Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 2:03.52. It was a new personal best for Buttner as she leads the BIG EAST this season, ranks 11th nationally and fifth in the East.
