BIG EAST Notes - 4.27
Two To Go

Two pivotal league contests remain in BIG EAST women’s lacrosse, with two spots in the BIG EAST Championship up for grabs. Cincinnati will look to play spoiler against Marquette on Friday in a game streaming on the BIG EAST Digital Network at 6 p.m. (ET). The Golden Eagles are in the hunt for one of those two remaining postseason slots, while a loss to the Bearcats accompanied by a Temple win over Georgetown would spell the end for MU’s program-record-setting campaign. The Hoya-Owl showdown is slated for Saturday in Philadelphia at 1 p.m.  A Georgetown win would clinch the No. 3 seed for the Hoyas, while MU would nab the No. 4 seed, regardless of Friday’s outcome, for its first BIG EAST Championship berth.  Should Temple top Georgetown and Marquette beat Cincinnati, the postseason bids would depend on how many goals the Owls win by, as goal differential would be the deciding factor in a potential three-way tie (see below for breakdown). Reigning league champion Florida has already claimed the No. 1 seed and regular-season title following a 7-0 finish to BIG EAST play, while RV UConn claimed the No. 2 seed with a 6-1 record. The Huskies wrap up the regular season with a non-league tilt at No. 20/19 Towson on Sunday.

Deciding Goal Differential
In the event that Marquette wins Friday and Temple tops Georgetown, a three-way tie for the two available BIG EAST Championship spots are created as Georgetown, Marquette and Temple would all be in third place at 4-3. All three teams would be 1-1 against one another, making the next tiebreaker by league rule goal differential between one another. Currently, Georgetown and Marquette are both at +1 goal differential and Temple is -2, meaning if Temple beats Georgetown by…
  • 1 to 3 goals: Marquette is No. 3 seed and Temple is No. 4 seed (Georgetown is eliminated)
  • 4 or more goals: Temple is No. 3 seed and Georgetown is No. 4 seed (Marquette is eliminated)
