DePaul's Thomas, St. John's Kim Take Golf Honors
NEW YORK – DePaul’s Freddy Thomas has been selected BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and St. John’s Anna Kim has been tabbed BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week.
Thomas took third place at the Redhawk Invitational played at the Chambers Bay Golf Club, site of the 2015 U.S. Open. The sophomore finished the 54 holes with a score of 224. He carded rounds of 78 (+7), 72 (+1) and 74 (+4). In the final round, he birdied the fifth hole and saved par on 13 holes. His third-place finish is his fourth top-10 of the season.
Kim took medalist honors at the Hoya Invitational to win her third tournament of the season. The senior registered the best second and third-round scores at the Four Streams Golf Course to record a seven-over-par score of 223, 10 strokes better than the runner-up.
BIG EAST Notebook
- Creighton’s Andrew Holloway tied for 22nd among 81 golfers at the ASU Red Wolves Intercollegiate while helping the Bluejays to an 11th place finish. He shot a 222 (75-66-81), finishing nine over par. His second round 66 was a career low and the best by any Bluejay since 2008. For the Bluejay women, junior Kelsey Petersen led her team to a 10th-place finish at the Kansas City Shootout. She finished in a tie for 14th place individually in a field of 84 golfers. She shot a three-round score of 230 (76-78-76) and recorded her third straight top-15 finish.
- St. John’s freshman Michael Conforti recorded the best finish of his career with a two-round score of 149 (75-74) at the Towson Invitational.
- Seton Hall’s Lloyd Jefferson Go finished fourth at the Redhawk Invitational, one stroke behind DePaul’s Thomas. Go shot a 13-over-par 225 (75-76-74). Seton Hall tied DePaul in team standings for sixth place.
- Georgetown won the Towson Invitational with a team score of 21-over par 309. Freshman Harrison Rhoades finished with a 3-over-par 147 and tied for third overall.
