Sport: BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Matchup: Friday, May 13 (1:45 p.m.) & Saturday, May 14 (12:45 p.m.)
Why We’re Watching: The 2016 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships come to SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio home to two of the most premier Track and Field Facilities in the nation. Competition begins Friday as the Villanova Women and Men defend their 2015 titles. Both Wildcat teams are two time champions, winning in 2014 and 2015 on their home track. The Marquette men and women were the runners up in 2015 and will prove to be contenders for the title as they have a total of 73 declared student-athletes competing. John Fanta will call the action live from the track in Geneva, while BEDN Correspondent Cayleigh Griffin will have live interviews with the winners. The BEDN broadcast also features a profile on Providence runner Julian Oakley.
Sport: Baseball
Matchup: Creighton at Xavier (Friday, 3 p.m. ET); St. John’s at Seton Hall (Friday, 6 p.m.)
Why We’re Watching: Creighton has already punched its ticket to the BIG EAST Championship, but the match up in Cincinnati has seeding implications as Xavier is looking to be the next one in currently ranked second in the conference at 9-3. Xavier has swept its last two BIG EAST opponents, but will have their work cut out for them against a top 30 RPI team in Creighton (28). St. John’s and Seton Hall were picked first and third in the BIG EAST preseason poll by the league’s head coaches, not only is this weekend a family and regional rivalry for the two metropolitan teams, but could play a key factor in who gets into the Championships with two weekends left. St. John’s is a series up on Seton Hall with a 7-5 record, while the Pirates, who were swept by Xavier last week, are looking to get in some last minute wins as they are at 5-7 in league play. If the season ended today, Seton Hall would be the odd man out of the play offs by a few losses.
