Lloyd Jefferson Go, Seton Hall
NEW YORK – Seton Hall junior Lloyd Jefferson Go has been named BIG EAST Player of the Year in men’s golf by a vote of the league’s head coaches. Xavier freshman Daniel Wetterich has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors go to Georgetown, led by head coach Tommy Hunter. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players in the balloting.
Go, a native of Guadalupe Cebu City, Phillippines, won the BIG EAST Championship Individual Crown at the Callawassie Golf Club with a six-under-par 210 for the 54-hole tournament. In the second round, he set a course record by carding a seven-under-par 65. With his first-place finish, Go received an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship as an individual. He is the top ranked player in the BIG EAST, according to GolfStat, and leads all players with a 71.5 stroke average. Prior to the Championship, Go was named All-BIG EAST First Team after a year that included eight top-10 finishes.
Wetterich, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, is third among conference players in the GolfStat rankings. His 73.29 stroke average is fifth in the BIG EAST. Wetterich finished the season with three top-10 finishes in his final four tournaments and five top-10 finishes overall. He tied for 14
th at the BIG EAST Championship with a nine-over-par 225. Wetterich was the only freshman named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Georgetown won its third BIG EAST title in conference history under the tutelage of Hunter, who has guided the Hoya program since 1984. The Hoyas finished 27 strokes ahead of second-place Xavier at the BIG EAST Championship and placed four players among the top-10 finishers. Sophomore Sam Madsen finished second to Seton Hall’s Go by shooting a three-under-par 213. Classmate Cole Berman tied for third at 214, a stroke behind Madsen. Freshman Harrison Rhoades tied for fifth at 219 and sophomore Jack Musgrave tied for ninth at 222.
