WASHINGTON – University of Denver men’s lacrosse junior attackman Connor Cannizzaro has been named one of the five finalists for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, the committee announced on Sunday.

Cannizzaro is the second Pioneer to be selected as a finalist for the award, and the fourth player under head coach Bill Tierney to be among the final five players, a list that includes 2015 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Wesley Berg and his son and former volunteer assistant Trevor Tierney.

Cannizzaro was named the 2016 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year earlier this month, leading the second-ranked Pioneers in points with 69 on a team-high 46 goals and 23 assists. A 2015 USILA First Team All-America pick, Cannizzaro had nine hat tricks (25 in his career) and a sock trick in 2016. The Denver attackman is currently ninth in the country in points-per game at 4.47 and sixth in goals per game at 2.93. DU’s leading scorer is 14th on the NCAA career active points list (193) and ninth on the active goals list at 129. In just 35 games with the program, Cannizzaro is fifth in the DU record book in points (159) and fifth in goals (103).

The Denver junior was joined on the list by Duke’s Myles Jones, Notre Dame’s Matt Landis, Brown’s Dylan Molloy and Yale’s Ben Reeves.
