NEW YORK  –  For the final BIG EAST weekly awards of 2016, Denver’s Connor Cannizzaro was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while St. John’s Harry Burke earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Cannizzaro had four goals for the Pioneers, helping them to their third-straight BIG EAST Regular Season title. Burke helped keep the Hoyas to just five goals giving St. John’s their first BIG EAST victory of the season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Connor Cannizzaro, Denver, Jr., A
Cannizzaro helped Denver to its third-straight BIG EAST Championship with five points (four goals and an assist). The attackman netted his eighth hat trick of 2016 and 24th of his career. He currently holds a 38-game active goal and point streak. His four goals were the most scored by a BIG EAST player on Saturday. He scored back-to-back goals in the third period to help the Pioneers take a 10-6 lead over the visiting Marquette Golden Eagles.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Harry Burke, St. John’s, Sr., GK
Burke helped hold the visiting Georgetown Hoyas to just five goals as he posted 15 saves between the pipes for an 8-5 victory for St. John’s. Along with his .750 save percentage, he added seven ground balls with three caused turnovers which included picked-off passes around the net.
 
BIG EAST Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll
Trevor Baptiste, Denver, So., FOS
Won 19-of-28 faceoffs, including 15 to himself to lead Denver to its third-straight BIG EAST title on Saturday. The sophomore went 17-of-22 from the X after the first quarter helping the Pioneers to a 14-11 win over Marquette.
 
Ryan McNamara, Marquette, Jr., A
McNamara notched new career bests of seven points and four assists, while also posting a hat trick in a comeback attempt at Denver on Saturday afternoon. He became the second MU player to reach 100 career points with his first goal of the day. McNamara’s efforts fell just short as Denver won 14-11, but his seven-point effort was the most for a BIG EAST player over the weekend.
 
Will Mazzone, Providence, Sr., A
Mazzone had four points in a 14-7 loss to Villanova netting three goals and adding an assist.
 
Joey Froccaro, Villanova, Fr., M
Froccaro posted a team-best four points with three goals and an assist in a 14-7 win over Providence, helping the Wildcats earn the No. 3 seed in the league tournament on Thursday.
 
John Moderski, Villanova, Sr., D
Moderski picked up a team-best seven ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 14-7 victory over Providence. Moderski and the Villanova defense kept the Friars scoreless for 28 minutes from the middle of the second quarter until the opening minutes of the fourth.
