#BIGEASTbase Minute – Top Seeds Square Off In Winners Bracket
ABERDEEN, Md. – The top seeds will meet in the winners bracket game on Friday in the BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep. No. 1 Xavier will meet No. 2 Creighton in the 7 p.m. prime time game on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The winner will get a bye on Saturday and will guarantee themselves a spot in Championship Sunday at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.
Preceding the contest, No. 3 Seton Hall will face No. 2 St. John’s in the tournament’s first elimination game at 3:30 p.m. The match up between the Pirates and Red Storm will also air on BEDN. The winner will play the loser of the winners bracket on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Pat O’Keefe and Jonathan Yardley will be on the call from Aberdeen, with dugout commentary by John Fanta and Kim Adams. First pitch of the doubleheader on BEDN will officially be at 3:33 p.m. ET. There will be at least 45 minutes in between games.
Both of Thursday’s games ended in walk offs in the ninth. Xavier’s Daniel Rizzie hit a two-out single down the left side scoring his teammates on base for a 9-8 win over No. 4 St. John’s in a game that took nearly four hours. Creighton’s ninth inning victory would come off fielding errors by Seton Hall, as Bluejay Daniel Woodrow slid into home, stealing a 6-5 win over the Pirates, complete with a late game come back.
