NEW YORK – St. John’s Brittany Garcia was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Grace Kramer scored BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors after leading the Red Storm to a sweep of Seton Hall and locking up the third seed in the BIG EAST Championship, the conference announced on Monday.
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Brittany Garcia, St. John’s, Jr., OF
Garcia was a hard out all weekend as she batted .667 with three runs, four RBI and three walks in the series sweep over the Pirates. The junior set the tone for the series when she blasted a two-run home run in the first inning of the series opener. Garcia scored and recorded a hit in all three games, slugging 1.167 for the series.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Grace Kramer, St. John’s, Jr.
Kramer was dominant in both her appearances against Seton Hall, finishing the weekend with two wins, 12 strikeouts and a 0.70 ERA over the course of 10.0 innings. In Game 1, the junior went the distance in an eight strikeout, one run, four hit performance. Coming out of the bullpen in the finale, Kramer quieted the Seton Hall bats and allowed the Red Storm to battle back and come through in the seventh with a walk-off win.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Megan Leyva, DePaul, So., P/OF
Leyva went 3-0 on the week, notching two wins over Creighton and one against Northwestern. The sophomore struck out five while surrendering just three runs to post a 1.50 ERA.
Dana Morris, Villanova, So., INF
Morris batted .417 with a run and two RBI as the Wildcats took 2-of-3 from Providence and secured the second seed in the BIG EAST Championship.
Kate Poppe, Villanova, Sr., P
Poppe picked up her 20th and 21st wins of the season against the Friars last weekend, striking out 12 in 12.2 innings of work.
Krystal Puga, St. John’s, So., 1B
Puga led St. John’s with five RBI and scored the game-winning run in the walk-off win on Sunday.
Brittney Veler, Providence, So., OF
Veler posted an even .500 batting average to go along with four RBI, two runs scored, a double and a long ball for the Friars.
