BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Thomas Hackimer was named Third Team ABCA All-America and First Team Senior CLASS Award All-American

NEW YORK  –  The 2016 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, St. John’s reliever Thomas Hackimer, continues to add both athletic and academic accolades to his college career as he was named a ABCA Third Team All-American as well as a First Team Senior CLASS Award All-American.

A third team Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-American, Hackimer has also earned both first team Senior CLASS Award All-America honors and first team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades. The first reliever to win BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year honors since 2005, Hackimer was a unanimous first team All-BIG EAST selection and earned first team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Hackimer was also a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. Selected by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft, Hackimer went 7-3 with eight saves and a 1.17 ERA in 28 appearances as a senior this past season. The reliever had 71 strikeouts in 53.2 innings of work and allowed just a .133 opponent batting average. In 26 appearances in the regular season, Hackimer was 7-1 with eight saves and a 0.72 ERA. The reliever racked up 67 strikeouts in 49.2 innings of work and held the opposition to just a .094 batting average.

For his Senior CLASS Award All-America status, his off the field achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition were celebrated.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Hackimer garnered first team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades this past season, while also earning first team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second-straight year.

The 2015-16 BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Hackimer also won the 2015-16 BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete Award as a physics major with a 3.62 GPA. The three-time Academic All-BIG EAST selection and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District choice has helped the baseball program win a pair of BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards (2012-13, 2014-15).

A member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society, Hackimer served as a team representative for both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student Development 101. The reliever was also involved with numerous community service initiatives, including the League of Yes, St. John’s the Baptist Church, St. Nicholas Men’s Shelter, Relay for Life and the Autism Fun Run.
