#BIGEASTbase Minute - Xavier Meets Vanderbilt Friday Night
NEW YORK - Xavier's second appearance in the NCAA tournament in three years starts Friday night as the Musketeers take on the top seed and host school in the region - Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. on ESPN3. The Musketeers are 30-28 overall and have won 16 times in their last 18 games.
It is the second time in three years Xavier, the BIG EAST regular season and tournament champions received the automatic berth to the NCAA Championship from the BIG EAST. The Musketeers are riding a six-game winning streak and were undefeated in the BIG EAST Tournament. Xavier played Vanderbilt earlier this season - they lost all three games.
The winner of the Nashville Regional – which also includes No. 2 seed UC Santa Barbara and No. 3 seed Washington – will go on to face the winner of the Louisville Regional, which includes the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed Louisville, Ohio State, Wright State, and Western Michigan.
Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 3, to Monday, June 6 (if necessary). The 70th Men’s College World Series begins play Saturday, June 18, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
