TUCSON, Ariz.  –  The 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, was announced on Wednesday and among the nation’s elite freshmen were St. John’s Josh Shaw and Seton Hall’s Cullen Dana.

Shaw, the 2016 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, is one of just three Red Storm players to start all 55 games. He batted .297 and finished the season ranked tied for second in the league with 42 RBI and ranked tied for sixth with 68 hits. The second baseman had 10 doubles, two home runs and 35 runs scored, while adding seven stolen bases in nine attempts. Shaw also led the league with nine sacrifice flies and posted a .985 fielding percentage. Shaw registered a team-high 13 multi-RBI games and finished tied for the team-lead with 18 multi-hit efforts. The rookie also had a 16-game hitting streak, the longest by a Red Storm player this past season.

Lefty starting pitcher Dana excelled in his first year at Seton Hall as he was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, and earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors twice. Dana finished the 2016 season ranked second in the BIG EAST with seven wins and a miniscule .201 opponent batting average.  Additionally, he ranked among the BIG EAST top-10 in 10 other categories including strikeouts and earned run average.  On May 15 vs. St. John’s, he tossed his first career complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks.  On March 26, he pitched seven no-hit innings in a victory over Army.
