KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The most prestigious individual award in collegiate soccer unveiled its watch lists of 28 men and 36 women which included a total of four BIG EAST players. The 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch Lists included BIG EAST women’s players Serina Kashimoto of Butler, Rachel Corboz of Georgetown and Morgan Proffitt of Marquette, while Providence’s Mac Steeves represented the BIG EAST men.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to the outstanding male and female players of the year. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, during the trophy presentation at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. The lists are compiled by the members of the NSCAA Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees, based on analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players.
Steeves was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection at forward in 2015, finishing the season third in the league in points with 28, listing second in goals (13) and tying for No. 1 in game-winning goals (5). Steeves was an NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team pick for the Friars.
Corboz was named the BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year and a first team all-league selection in 2015. She led Georgetown in scoring with 28 points, registering a team-high 10 goals and eight assists, finished third in the BIG EAST in points, tied for third in goals and tied for second in assists. Corboz was named a Third Team All-American by the NSCAA and was an All-Northeast Region First Team honoree.
Kashimoto led Butler to its first BIG EAST Championship title last fall, and the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history. She finished the historic season for the Bulldogs ranked third on the team with 18 points which included a team-best six assists. She garnered All-BIG EAST First Team honors for the second-straight season and became just the second All-American in Butler women's soccer history and the first since 1994.
Proffitt was a NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection in 2015 after earning All-BIG EAST First Team honors on defense. The Columbus, Indiana native scored three goals as a junior and earned BIG EAST weekly recognition on three occasions, including a pair of defensive player of the week honors.
BIG EAST women’s soccer’s three selections are the most since conference realignment with just one honoree in 2015 and two in each of the two previous seasons.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are NSCAA College Services program members, will participate in the 2016 NSCAA All-America selection process and the MAC Hermann Trophy lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players for men and women. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalists in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.
From that pool of 30, a total of six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the final balloting for the award. The finalists will be invited to St. Louis for the official announcement of the two winners at a press conference prior to the annual MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet.
