Catherine Zimmerman, Providence '16
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College women’s soccer player Catherine Zimmerman ‘16 signed a professional contract with Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League. The announcement was made by the team’s front office on July 1.
Zimmerman began the 2016 NWSL season on the roster for the Western New York Flash before opting to finish her undergraduate work at Providence College. Upon graduation, the Madison, N.J. native returned to New Jersey and began training with Sky Blue FC as a reserve player. To make room on the official roster for Zimmerman, Sky Blue FC waived goalkeeper Erin Nayler.
Zimmerman made her pro debut on July 2 vs. Portland Thorns FC in Portland, Oregon. She started the match and played 73 minutes of action in front of a crowd of 14,287 at Providence Park. Sky Blue FC will return to action on July 9 against the Houston Dash. The match will be played at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. On July 17, Zimmerman and her teammates will face the Boston Breakers at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Allston, Mass.

Over her four years at Providence, Zimmerman scored at least seven goals each season, accumulating a career total of 32 tallies and 12 assists. Beginning with her freshman year, she led the Friars in points for four consecutive seasons, including a career high 27 points on 11 goals and five assists during her junior campaign. After being named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team as a freshman, she followed that up with All-BIG EAST Second Team honors as a sophomore and back-to-back All-BIG EAST First Team accolades during her final two years in Providence.
